Nutley has a strong community. We may have people in our community that would be great in our schools and may not know that the NJ Department of Education has recently changed the requirements for a substitute teacher. Currently, individuals can qualify to be an instructional substitute with 30 college credits from an accredited college or university, as well as a criminal history record check. We also welcome individuals with active teaching certificates to apply for daily substitute teaching positions in our schools as well.

Currently, New Jersey has a fee holiday on certificates until June 30, 2024, meaning that there is no cost to the application.

Work can be day-to-day as your schedule permits, and there are also permanent substitute opportunities for daily work.

The Nutley School District serves approximately 4,100 students in Kindergarten through grade 12. The five elementary schools serve students K-6 and include Lincoln School, Radcliffe School, Spring Garden School, Washington School and Yantacaw School. John H. Walker Middle School serves students in grades 7-8 while Nutley High School addresses the needs of students in grades 9-12.
