On Monday night, the Board of Education and the Board of Commissioners held a joint meeting at Nutley High School to commemorate their shared services agreement.

Working together, the two Boards have spearheaded facilities upgrades throughout the district including the Radcliffe multi-purpose room, the preschool playground at JHWMS and the beautification of the NHS front entrance, completed this summer. 

On Monday, Superintendent Kent Bania, Mayor Joseph Scarpelli, Board of Education President Sal Ferraro and both Boards unveiled the newly renovated Nutley High School Media Center. Designed by Solutions Architecture, the space has been completely transformed. 

NHS student athletes and Director of Athletics, Joe Piro, helped Monday’s guests tour the high school, including the newly renovated Weight Room. The NHS culinary students and teachers, Lisa Boymann and John Gulardo, catered the event. Andy Conte and his TV Production students conducted interviews and filmed the event in their new studio and Photography students were on hand to take pictures. District administrators, County Superintendent Zarra and Assemblyman Caputo were also in attendance.

Superintendent Bania spoke to the group about the district's visions, calling it, “a high performing PreK to12 community that prepares students academically, socially, and emotionally for whichever path they choose.” 

Both Boards memorialized the partnership by holding a ceremonial signing of the shared service agreement. The evening also served as a celebration of the completed projects, provided an update on the existing work and previewed future joint projects.

The collaboration between these two Boards allows the groups to  work in tandem to provide the best possible education, facilities and opportunities for the students of Nutley. “It’s all coming together as One Nutley,” said Mr. Bania.  

In addition to Superintendent Bania, Board President Ferraro, Mayor Scarpelli, all the commissioners, Mr. Caputo, Mr. Zarra and Board Trustee Dr. D’Elia spoke regarding the partnership and the projects.

Board President Ferraro opened the joint meeting, in the Media Center. “One Nutley centers on an agreement between our two governing boards to work together for the betterment of our students, school district and community,” Mr. Ferraro said. “What is clear from this

agreement is that our elected officials are committed to working together for the betterment of our school district and community.  Thank you for putting forward a vision for One Nutley.”

Mayor Scarpelli echoed the sentiments of the evening, showcasing the work of One Nutley working in partnership. “It truly is an exciting time,” Mayor Scarpelli said. “By combining our resources and expertise, we can proactively address the evolving needs of our residents and ensure a better future for our children.”
